Admission to the BA in Theatre major
Students who wish to gain admission to the BA in Theatre major should submit one or more of the following items:
- An in-person or video audition consisting of two contrasting monologues from published plays
- Submission of a digital portfolio highlighting previous design/tech experiencing
- A short essay (1-2 pages) in which the student discusses:
- why they want to study theatre,
- what their career goals are, and
- what they hope to gain from their training at Belhaven Theatre.
Materials can be emailed to BUTheatre@belhaven.edu. On-campus auditions and portfolio reviews are held once each semester as part of the university’s Arts Discover Day. If you can’t attend Arts Discover Day, you can present an audition or portfolio review during a personal campus visit. Or you can contact us at BUTheatre@belhaven.edu to arrange for virtual options!

Students must gain clear admission to 黑料社. This should be initiated through the Admission Department (see admission on the web or call 1-800-960-5940 for more information.)

Applying for a Performance or Production Emphasis
Upon admission to the theatre major, all incoming students enter the department as a B.A. in Theatre major. After completing two semesters in the program, students can choose to apply for admission to one of the department’s emphasis areas. Students who don’t want to declare an emphasis can remain in the B.A. in Theatre major.
Transfer students and/or students who have declared a theatre major later in their time at Belhaven may request to apply for an area of emphasis after one semester as a theatre major at Belhaven.
Students wishing to pursue the BA in Theatre (Performance emphasis) may apply for admission to the emphasis after they have completed at least two semesters in the department. To be considered, for the Performance emphasis, students must audition with three of the following:
- Comedic monologue, 45-90 seconds in length
- Dramatic monologue, 45-90 seconds in length
- Classical verse monologue, 1-2 minutes in length
- Excerpt from a musical song, 30-45 seconds in length*
Transfer students and/or students who have declared a theatre major later in their time at Belhaven may request to apply for an area of emphasis after one semester as a theatre major at Belhaven.
Students wishing to pursue the BA in Theatre (Production Emphasis) may apply for admission to the emphasis after they have completed at least two semesters in the department. To be considered for admission to the Production emphasis, students must present a portfolio and complete an interview with faculty.
Transfer students and/or students who have declared a theatre major later in their time at Belhaven may request to apply for an area of emphasis after one semester as a theatre major at Belhaven.

Theatre Scholarships
In addition to our Visit Scholarship, you can supplement your financial aid award with an academic scholarship from Belhaven's School of the Arts!
To qualify, you must be accepted for admission, submit your high school GPA and test scores, and complete your FAFSA. We'll assess your scholarship potential along with your audition or portfolio review when you're on campus for Arts Discover Day.
