Theater Department to Present the Musical “Seussical”

JACKSON, Miss. (October 6, 2025) - ’s Theatre Department will bring Dr. Seuss’s world to life in the whimsical musical “Seussical,” running October 30–November 1 and November 6–8 in the Blackbox Theatre.

Directed by Assistant Professor of Theatre Jeff Allen Young, the production features music by Stephen Flaherty, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, and a book by Ahrens and Flaherty. Co-conceived by Ahrens, Flaherty, and Eric Idle, “Seussical” is based on the works of Dr. Seuss and promises fun for everyone. “The musical lovingly brings to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters in a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza!” says Young. “’Seussical’ is fun for the whole family!”

The journey follows a colorful cast of beloved characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie, and Jojo — a young boy with a big imagination. Audiences will travel from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos in this magical tale about friendship, courage, and believing in the impossible.
